Scurlock Foundation

Volunteerism, Community Involvement & Philanthropy

The Scurlock Foundation was founded in 1954 by Eddy Clark Scurlock and his wife, Elizabeth Belchner Scurlock, along with their daughter, Laura Lee Scurlock Blanton and her husband, Jack S. Blanton.  Since its founding the Foundation has provided financial support to non-profit organizations primarily in the arenas of education, health, civic enhancement, culture and human services. Recognizing the profound faith in God and his Church that motivated and inspired the generosity of its founders, succeeding generations have continued to prioritize faith-based efforts and institutions through their giving. During the past seven decades, an integral part of the culture of the Scurlock Foundation has been to honor the founders’ legacy and strong sense of family.

In January of 2023, after careful consideration of the evolving and expanding needs of our community, as well as the expanding number of family members who carry on the privilege and responsibility of stewarding the resources of the Foundation, the three branches of the Scurlock Family will be reallocating the Foundation’s resources into separate funds. Successor entities to the Scurlock Foundation will work to honor the legacy of its founders and allow the spirit of generosity established 69 years ago to flourish. *

*Although the Scurlock Foundation grant application process is no longer open, the Board of Directors will honor all current commitments of the Foundation.

We Work With

"Eddy Scurlock established the Scurlock Foundation in 1954 as a way of sharing the blessings given to him by God with those less fortunate. His philosophy of giving was shaped by his Christian values. His mother, Ella Clark Scurlock, helped to shape his beliefs by her example of sharing with others. During the Depression when drifters would show up at her back door, she would divide the food portions on her children's plates so as to provide enough for the hungry stranger. This example made a lasting impression on him."
